Jacuzzi
The whirlpool effects of the Jacuzzi promote muscle relaxation and healing by combining warmth and massage. The buoyancy of the water allows opening of joint spaces and increased ROM. Stretching and ROM exercises can be performed in the whirlpool for added benefit.
Whirlpool therapy is effective for:
- Soft tissue injuries
- Arthritis
- Hip and elbow dysplasia
- Surgery recovery
- Injury recovery
Benefits of massage therapy are greatly enhanced when combined with the Jacuzzi. The warmth and circulation of the water relaxes the skin, fascia, and superficial muscles, allowing the massage therapist to perform deeper massage. The buoyancy of the water relieves weight and stress on the joints of the limbs, therefore opening joint spaces up to 90 degrees, allowing the therapist to obtain full ROM when stretching the dog. The Jacuzzi is also beneficial for paralyzed dogs, as well as post-surgery or injured dogs that do not want to bear weight on a limb. Dogs with neurological disease or paralysis can be worked with in the Jacuzzi, to improve proprioception. The temperature of the water is approximately 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and the dog will spend 10 to 20 minutes in the heated water.
