Chief of Surgery, Dr. John Stambaugh has been practicing at Boston Road Animal Hospital since 1978. Having received his BS Degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated as a Veterinary Medical Doctor in 1974.

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Stambaugh remained at the University of Pennsylvania where he pursued post-graduate training. In 1978, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and earned a PhD in Physiology.

In 1983, after several years of casework and examinations, Dr. Stambaugh received his Board Certification status and was inducted into the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is one of a handful of US veterinarians who is Board Certified in Veterinary Surgery. His particular areas of interest include abdominal, thoracic, and orthopedic surgery.

Even with his busy surgery schedule, Dr. Stambaugh still finds time for hobbies and outdoor activities. He enjoys wood working, gardening, fishing and boating. Dr. Stambaugh and his wife Jane, also a veterinarian, have 2 children, John, a mechanical engineer, and Jessica, a high school student.

Director of patient wellness, Dr. Donald Crouser has been a veterinarian at Boston Road Animal Hospital since 1978. Dr. Crouser is a general practitioner with special interests in preventative medicine, reproduction, clinical laboratory, avian medicine and exotic animal medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association and past president of the Greater Springfield Veterinary Medical Association.

A graduate of Texas A & M University, Dr. Crouser received numerous pre-veterinary and veterinary scholastic achievement awards. As a pre-veterinary student, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi (the National Science Academic Fraternity) and Gamma Sigma Delta (Agriculture Honor Society). As a veterinary student, Dr. Crouser was inducted into Phi Zeta, the National Veterinary Honor Society. In 1973, he graduated from Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude).

Dr. Crouser has several outside hobbies and interests. He is an active member and lay leader of the United Methodist Church in Enfield, CT. Dr. Crouser and his wife, Lisa, participate in Greyhound Options Inc., an organization that promotes the responsible adoption of retired racing Greyhounds. For relaxation, he enjoys walking his dogs (Wag and Jack - both are Greyhounds) playing with his cat (Jaz), gardening and bike riding.
